A MORNING PRACTICE TO build your soul muscle

Here’s a really nice practice that will help you build your soul muscle.

Wait …. why do I need to build my soul muscle?

Well, if you’re anything like me, your default is your ego/logical mind. It’s easy for us to think in black and white – to think we know the way things are, how they’re going to pan out.

But the gold of your life is in the realm of soul.  And one way to soul is through your imagination.

If you need help shifting into the imaginal world (the world of your soul images), here’s a quick practice you can do every morning.

  • As soon as possible after you wake up (because you’re likely to be closer to the dream state then), set a timer for five minutes.

  • Give your imagination free rein. Tell your imaginal self it can play, have fun, roam and explore.

  • If you sense that a part of you feels resistant to playing like this, speak with the part to find out why it's feeling that way. Listen gently, and honour what it tells you. Remind it that you're in control, and it's safe to relax. Once the part feels safe, you might find that your resistance drops away.

  • Just watch what unfolds on the screen of your mind, without trying to change it or work out what it means.

  • Enjoy!

This practice can be so much fun.

This morning, the first image that came to me was a milk bottle, filled with milk.  As I watched, the milk turned fuschia pink. Then the bottle tipped up and the milk poured itself out, becoming a spray of pink droplets.

Why? I have no idea! And that’s exactly the point.

The most important thing about this practice is there’s no agenda.

  • It’s not about visualising anything intentionally.

  • It’s not about manifesting, or calling anything in.

  • It's not about trying to get somewhere.

It’s just letting your soul have fun. (In fact, think of it as playtime, not practice!)

The more you do this, the more in touch you become with your playful, creative, imaginal essence. (Tell me you don't want more of that in your life…)

Try this every morning, and see how you feel after a week or two.

I’d love to know how you get on (or if you have questions. Email me here).
